Rachid Sfar

Rachid Sfar ( born September 11, 1933, Mahdia ) is a Tunisian politician, political writer and former prime minister.

Study and work as a finance officer

His father Tahar Sfar was next to Habib Bourguiba in 1934 one of the founders of the Neo Destour party. After studying literature, law and economics at the Universities of Tunis and Paris and the French Tax Academy ( École nationale des impôts ) he enters the 1960 administrative service of the Ministry of Finance. In 1974, he eventually rises to the Secretary of the Treasury.

Minister under President Bourguiba

Between 1977 and 1986 passes Sfar then various ministries. In 1977 he was first Minister of Industry and Minister of Defense in 1979. In 1980, he is Minister of Public Health in the Cabinet of Mohamed Mzali. Later he took over the Ministry of National Economy and Minister of Finance in 1986.

Prime Minister (1986 to 1987)

On 8 July 1986 he was appointed by President Habib Bourguiba as the successor of Mohamed Mzali prime minister. As such, it should provide for a balanced budget and a strengthening of the economy.
