Rachis

Rachis is a term that is used for a variety of elongated or spindle-shaped structures in body parts or organs of plants and animals. He comes from the Greek and originally meant " spinal cord ".

In botany is called rachis usually the average major axis of compound leaves or the main axis of the inflorescence.

In zoology, the term is used among other things for the stem of bird feathers. However, it can also have other meanings, and example indicating the central part of the carapace of trilobites.
