Racial Discrimination Act 1975

The Racial Discrimination Act is a law that was passed by the Australian Parliament during the tenure of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam (Australian Labor Party ) in 1975.

Racial discrimination was declared by this Act in Australia for unlawfully. It takes precedence over the laws of the states or territories. The adoption of the Racial Discrimination Act came after Australia had signed the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The validity of the law was confirmed in 1982 by the High Court of Australia by its judgment in Koowarta case.
