Rad (unit)

The wheel ( unit symbol rd), of Engl. radiation absorbed dose, is a unit that is no longer used since 1977 in the medical field since the end of 1985 the absorbed radiation dose, more precisely, the energy dose. It was replaced by the SI unit Gray and applies from 1 January 1978 in Germany no more than legal unit. The unit symbol rd is not to be confused with the identical symbols of the Rutherford, an obsolete unit of activity.

Also, the unit symbol wheel was in use, but with the unit symbol for plane angle rad identical. The wheel was in 1953 set by the ICRU as the unit of absorbed dose of 100 erg / g.
