Rade bei Hohenwestedt

Rade b. Hohenwestedt is a municipality. It is located in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein. Rade belongs to the parish Hohenwestedt.

Geography and transport

Rade is located about 19 kilometers west of Neumünster and 32 kilometers south of Rendsburg in Akrug Nature Park, between the ridge and the lokal Buckener Au. In addition to sandy forest and arable land the municipality consists mainly of moist to boggy meadows.

To the west runs at some distance from the main road 77 Rendsburg to Itzehoe and south of State Road 430 from Neumünster towards Heide and the railway line Neumünster Heath.

History

The name Rade derives from the fact the clearing of forested areas for a settlement. The first mention should be done early 16th century, while the Royal located in the village water mill was first mentioned in the late 15th century. It is likely that there has been a settlement in Rade before that date.
