Radio 4 (Netherlands)

The radio station Radio 4 is a transmitter for classical music within the Nederlandse Publieke Omroeps. Public broadcasting in the Netherlands is a subsidiary operated so that the following facilities contribute to the program:

  • TROS ( Omroepvereniging TROS - Televisie & Radio Omroep Stichting)
  • AVRO (Algemene Vereniging Radio Omroep )
  • NPS ( Nederlandse Programma Stichting, formerly NTR )
  • VARA ( Vereeniging van Arbeiders Radio Amateurs )
  • NCRV ( Nederlandse Vereniging Radio Christelijke )
  • VPRO ( Vrijzinnig Protestantse Radio Omroep )
  • MAX ( Omroep MAX)
  • Joodse Omroep

The first broadcast of Radio 4 (then under the name " Hilversum 4") was held on 28 December 1975. This was also the first broadcast day of the Dutch radio station Veronica. At the beginning of the transmitter André van Duin was very often in the daily program, which the sender positively influenced in the first time. The evening program was designed largely in the first -year run by Televisie Academie. The transmission times were extended very quickly. A 24-hour program was not yet occurred in the early years.

Today Radio4 sends a 24-hour program, via the Internet and satellite in " surround sound ". The program schema has changed in recent years. There are fewer and fewer sent complete works at a stretch; for more selected fragments from familiar classical works.
