Radio Act of 1912

The Radio Act of 1912 was a United States federal law.

The law was enacted after the sinking of the RMS Titanic. It led the licensing requirement for radio stations a, regulated the marine radio emergency communications in the amateur radio service and limited to wavelengths shorter than 200 meters. Since then, the long-range possibilities of short-wave were not yet known, these frequencies were considered less useful.

The law was valid until 1927.
