Radio Massacre International

Radio Massacre International (short: RMI ) is a musician trio from England. The band consists of Steve Dinsdale (keyboards, drums), Gary Houghton (guitar, synth ) and Duncan Goddard (keyboards, bass). The music draws heavily on the style of Tangerine Dream from the early 1970s and is thus largely improvised. It has always tried to put the music into a "drawer", the band itself preferred the term "organic " music.

Name

The unusual name of the band comes from the early 80s, when Steve and Duncan experimented with sounds. They discovered that it was possible to connect a guitar to her radio, and thus to produce unusual noise. The name "radio massacre" was born; the " international" was only added because it sounded better. The name therefore has no deeper meaning.

History

The band's history goes back to the 80s, when Steve and Duncan were together at school. Along with Gary, they founded the band " THE " and recorded 12 albums, of which, however, never one was published.

Steve, who is from house drummer, played after his move to London in 1988 in various " scene " bands, while Duncan began synthesizer to " collect " and take the first solo projects. When he finally space for himself and Steve, who was now completely disillusioned by the music business, discovered in which they could work together, they took in 1993 to the first joint session, which should be published later as an album " Startide ". Gary came in 1994 with his guitar added, and the band in its current form was born.

The first official release was the double CD "Frozen North " in 1995. During the same year she had her first appearance on the pop festival in Sheffield.

1996, they were guests of the show " MTV Party Zone ". They made it as the first and only band in this mission to deliver a 20-minute live performance without a single recognizable beat.

Shortly after this legendary performance, they were the first electronic musicians who were allowed to play at the Jodrell Bank Observatory, in the shadow of the giant parabolic antenna.

In 1997, she played on the popular (but now defunct ) KLEMdag Festival in Nijmegen in the Netherlands prior to its biggest number of audience.

The year 2000 brought an appearance on the Alfa Centauri Festival in the Netherlands, and another visit at the Jodrell Bank Observatory. The band's music also served as background music in the BBC's " Do not Look Down " on the over 100m large radio telescope.

The first Hampshire Jam festival for electronic music RMI played together with other artists of the genre such as Air Sculpture, Free System Project and Paul Nagle.

In November 2002, the band started their first U.S. tour. In addition to performances at Progwest Festival in LA and at St Mary's Church in Philadelphia they played twice live on the radio to the stations KXLU in LA and WXPN in Philadelphia. In the same year was followed by an appearance on the E- Live Festival in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

In early 2004 they played then a concert in Tapiola, Finland, whose music can be heard on the album " Walking on the Sea". The title of the CD refers to the frozen sea over which one could reach the concert hall.

Since 2003 concerts the band plays regularly in the concert series at the National Space Centre in Leicester, England.

In December 2006, the band released the long awaited 6 CD Box "Lost in Space" with previously unreleased material from the years 1987 - 2003.
