Radioligand

A radioligand is in biochemistry, pharmacology, and related sciences used with a radionuclide labeled substance which can bind as a ligand to a target protein, such as a receptor.

Properties

If a radioligand diagnostically or therapeutically used as a drug, it is referred to as a radiopharmaceutical. Radioligand found in radioligand binding studies, scintigraphy, positron emission tomography (PET ) and single photon emission computed tomography ( SPECT) application. Decide on the type of application of radioligand both its pharmacological properties of the ligand ( affinity, selectivity ) and the radiochemical properties of the radionuclide ( type of radiation, activity, half-life). Radioligand produced by radiolabeling, antibodies or immunoconjugates in the mark is referred to as immunolabeling.
