Radix ampla ( Hartmann, 1821)
The wide mouthed mud snail (Radix ampla ) is a water lung worm from the family of mud snails. The species is detected since the Pleistocene.
Features
The thread of the housing is very small, the last whorl is very greatly enlarged. The upper edge of the housing opening is usually higher than the top of the housing. The inner edge of the opening is severely bent. The fold is straight. The housing is high, and to 19 mm wide to 20 mm. The housing is festschalig and almost opaque.
Lifestyle and dissemination
The species lives in quiet parts of feet and lakes. They usually spend their time along the shoreline near the water surface. The species occurs in central and eastern Europe to Siberia. It is relatively rare.
Similar Species
The species is to be confused especially with the ear pond snail. The columellar fold is but unlike this type is not twisted and usually stronger handled.
