Alpine pond snail (Radix labiata )

The Alpine pond snail (Radix labiata also Radix peregra (OF Müller, 1774) ) is a water lung worm from the family of mud snails ( Lymnaeidae ).

Features

The housing is spitzkonisch with about 4.5 to 5 turns. These take relatively uniformly in height and width. The festwandige shell is brown or gray-brown with a purple sheen. The outer line is straight; the estuary margin falls from the upper extension from the same steep. The housings are 12-20 mm high and 7-13 mm wide.

Lifestyle and dissemination

The species lives in small, standing or slow- flowing waters. It also occurs in the mountains. It occurs in central and southern Europe to Turkey in isolated occurrences before and is relatively rare.

Similar Species

The species can be very similar to the pond snail. This is usually but wide, bent the mouth stronger. In extreme forms, however, helps only a study of the Bursa part in the genital opening of the female animals.
