Rafael del Pino (businessman)

Rafael del Pino Moreno ( born November 10, 1920 in Madrid, † June 14, 2008 ) was a Spanish contractor. He was known as " Rey del Ladrillo " (Eng. King of the brick ) and applied at the time of his death by Amancio Ortega as the second richest man in Spain. His fortune and that of his family was estimated by Forbes magazine to 5 billion U.S. dollars.

Del Pino was a PhD -way, canal and harbor engineer and started his career in 1947 at the company Construcciones y Vías, which he left in 1952 as a director in order to start his own company Ferrovial. Ferrovial supplied initially in the Spanish war, the Renfe imported from Germany railway sleepers. When the subways were extended from Madrid and Barcelona in the 1960s, Ferrovial was also involved. At the same time the company expanded its business field and on the road and to participate in the big dam projects the Franco era. Rafael del Pino was the post of CEO of his company in 2000 to his son, Rafael del Pino Calvo - Sotelo. The family belongs del Pino 58 % of the company. Del Pino devoted himself since his retirement from the company, especially sailing on his ocean-going, very comfortable boat Alcor. He was married to Ana María Calvo - Sotelo, the sister of former Prime Minister, Minister of Public Works and President of the Spanish railways Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo -, and was the father of five children.
