Rafael Osuna

Rafael Herrera Osuna ( born September 15, 1938 in Mexico City; † June 4, 1969 in Monterrey) was a Mexican tennis player.

Osuna was in the year 1963 as the first and so far only Mexicans number 1 in world tennis ( amateur ). Among his greatest successes were the victory in the men's singles at the U.S. Open in 1963 and the double success at the U.S. Open in 1962 and Wimbledon in 1960 and 1963.

Rafael Osuna in 1969 in a plane crash. Shortly before, he had almost single-handedly led Mexico to victory in the Davis Cup 3-2 over Australia.
