Raffaele Piria

Raffaele Michele Rocco Piria ( born August 20, 1814 Scilla, † July 18, 1865 in Turin ) was an Italian physician and chemist.

Raffaele Piria studied medicine and then chemistry at Dumas in Paris. He became in 1842 professor of chemistry at the University of Pisa. He participated in the first Italian War of Independence in 1848. In 1856 he was appointed professor at the University of Turin. He is considered one of the greatest chemists of the 19th century in Italy.
