Raffaele Scapinelli Di Leguigno

Cardinal Raffaele Di Scapinelli Leguigno ( born April 25, 1858 in Modena, Italy, † September 16, 1933 in Forte dei Marmi, Lucca ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Raffaele Di Scapinelli Leguigno studied the subjects of Catholic theology and philosophy in the seminary of Reggio Emilia and in Rome. He received his doctorate in both canon law and in civil law and in 1884 received the sacrament of Holy Orders. After further study, he became in 1887 professor of canon law at the seminary of Reggio Emilia, in 1889 he entered the service of the Vatican Secretariat of State. From 1891 to 1894 he worked as a secretary for the Apostolic Nunciature in Portugal, from 1894 to 1905 he held various positions at the Apostolic Nunciature in the Netherlands true. In 1905 he received the appointment as apostolic prothonotary and the Secretary of the Commission for the codification of Canon Law, 1908, the same task in the Kurialabteilung for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs was conferred on him. In addition, he served as advisor to the Holy Office and the Consistorial.

1912 Pius X appointed him Titular Archbishop of Laodicea ad Libanum and appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to Austria - Hungary. The bishop ordained by Cardinal Raffaele Scapinelli Di Leguigno Rafael Merry del Val y Zulueta. Pope Benedict XV. took him on 6 December 1915 as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Girolamo dei Croati ( degli Schiavoni ) in the College of Cardinals, and appointed him in 1918 to the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Religious.

Raffaele Di Scapinelli Leguigno died on 16 September 1933, Forte dei Marmi and was buried in the cemetery " Campo Verano " in Rome.
