Raffle

A raffle ( pl. ~ s, veralt, although grammatically regular righteous: Raffles; Italian:. Lottery ) is a raffle of gift items at festivities or charitable events.

History

Originally, the raffle was a common Italian lottery game in which the lots were drawn from a drum. Since the paper with the lot numbers in the drum by another tumbled ( Italian: tombolare ), this type of lottery received their characteristic name. Raffles were mainly played at carnivals of the assembled crowd in public places.

Under a raffle in the language of German-speaking countries is understood in today's sense, a mostly organized for the purpose of the proceeds of funds for social or charitable purposes event. Therefore, the term also differs from the more raffle lottery and bingo type games in France, Italy, Spain, Turkey and England.
