Raful Neal

Raful Neal ( born June 6 1936 in Baton Rouge, † September 1, 2004 ) was an American blues singer, harmonica player and songwriter.

Raful Neal is the father of Baton Rouge blues, a title he has, his influence on other musicians and as the father of ten children, nine of whom play blues music earned through his discography. One of his sons, Kenny Neal, has made a great career as a blues musician in the band play some of his brothers.

Biography

He and his sister lost their parents at an early stage, and the two grew up with an aunt on. At the age of 14, he started with the harmonica, supported by Ike Brown, a local musician and influenced by Little Walter. At his first band, The Clouds, was Lester Johnson ( Lazy Lester ), who was later replaced by the very young Buddy Guy. As it Little Walter, his idol, playing in Baton Rouge heard, he invited the band to come to Chicago and for him to make appearances that he could not perceive themselves. Buddy Guy went to Chicago Raful Neal remained in Baton Rouge, and made his first recording for Peacock Records, Sunnyside; but she was not successful. For Peacock he took no more records, only in the 1960s, he resumed singles for Whit, La Louisiane and Fantastic on.

In the 1980s he toured with Buddy Guy and in 1987 he recorded his first album, Louisiana Legend, for Kingsnake Records on. The album was acquired in 1990 by Alligator Records. By 1987, he was just a local celebrity. Only the inclusion of Man, Watch Your Woman made ​​him known nationally. The single was nominated for a Blues Music Award in the category "Best Blues Single". When recording his next album I been mistreated, he was by his sons Noel (bass ) and supports Raful Jr. (drums). In the 1990s he toured around the world. In 1995, he was inducted into the Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame. In 1998, he took another Old Friends on, then he became ill with cancer, to which he succumbed in 2004.
