Raglan sleeve

Raglan sleeves are a special sectional shape of sleeves. The section includes the shoulders and the seams run diagonally into the collar seam to the neck.

Name

Named this sleeve is form by Lord Raglan ( 1788-1855 ). The term first appeared around 1862 in the English literature. Lord Raglan had lost in the battle of Waterloo an arm and was field marshal in the Crimean War. In this campaign he was wearing a jacket where the sleeves were not recognized at the shoulders, but obliquely attached to the collar seam, which facilitated him with only one arm tightening of the jacket.
