Rahling

Rahling ( German Rahlingen ) is a commune with 811 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines and Canton Rohrbach- lès -Bitche.

Geography

Rahling is located in the southwestern part of the agrarian Bitscher country, at the junction of the Crooked Alsace. The place has a share in Northern Vosges Natural Park. In the south of Alsace Canton Sarre- Union borders, in the east the district of Montbronn, in the north and in the west Bining Schmittviller. Rahling is in the Vallee d' Altkirch, which is named after a chapel at the district border to Bining, below the Herles mountain that rises significantly to the northeast. Around the Peter Bach, at the transition to the Vosges, located in the southeast of the district of the community forest, which merges into the forest of Lviv to the north.

History

As can be found in many places around the area on Rahlinger district Gallo- Roman remains. In the year 1150 the first mention was made as Radingen.

The place followed in its history Zweibrücken - Bitsch. The good soils, coupled with a convenient location, in the 18th century were the basis for a successful grain and wine, which led to an above-average development. As a result, flourished also the craft and the testimonies of local stonemasons and sculptors are still to be found in Rahling and many communities in the area. From 1790 to 1793 Rahling belonged to the Canton Bouquenom. When France 1794, the county Saarwerden annexed, the place Bouquenom but was merged with the town of Sarre- Union Sarrewerden while Rahling remained Lorraine and the Canton Rohrbach was slammed. The westernmost location Schmittweiler was until 1837 the Annexe of Rahling and only became an independent municipality.

Walking through the place, you can still find many lintels artisan character. - Chapel and Hofgut Altkirch on the northern border district. Altkirch was the original parish of the area. Residential house of Jean Burgun near the church, built in 1796 and in particular the entrance area provides a demonstration of Rahlinger craftsmanship in the late 18th century dar. - Built in the early 14th century Castle of Rahling in 1380 by John II of Saarwerden destroyed. In the 15th century it was rebuilt, but in 1572 abandoned by the Duke of Lorraine. A subsequent partial restoration can be determined from a date engraved on the year 1620. The best of the stair tower on the south facade has been preserved. Both entrance doors are decorated with six-leaf, flowering wisteria blossoms. Overall, taking the building in the surrounding area a special status and is strongly influenced by Alsatian forms.
