The classification of this king in the Egyptian chronology is uncertain. Traditionally Rahotep is considered second king of the 17th dynasty. Maybe his reign is to be set in the 13th dynasty and one of the last kings of the 13th Dynasty ( Vandersleyen etc.). Both views may need to be corrected, as some recent discoveries prove. Kim Ryholt referred to it as the first ruler of his 17th dynasty. Rahoteps throne name is mentioned in the King List of Karnak and can be completed in the Royal Canon of Turin. According to this he reigned three years.

Rahotep is only known from three monuments. A stele from Koptos reported to renovation works at the local Min Temple by Rahotep, and produced on an arc with two arrows is a son of the king mentioned by name Ameny, the son of Sobekemsaf is I. simultaneously. The stele of a private man from Abydos dated under Rahotep and shows the ruler.

The king appears in a spirit of history of the Ramesside period. A Treasure House chief of the ruler asks the main character of the story, Chonsemhab on renovating the grave. History may show that Rahotep in Thebes had his grave.
