By Rail Alliance, three different objectives: Firstly, the competition aims to strengthen against cars and air traffic for the benefit of the web. On the other hand, the web offers are to be networked in the international high-speed services to enable customers in Europe seamless travel chains from city center to city center and to establish uniform service and quality standards. In addition, the distribution of international tickets will be simplified and improved.

To this end, a joint booking site on the Internet should be started from 2009, can be purchased on which tickets of all members. With the development of a common booking software end of 2007, the SBB computer science was commissioned. The system should be based on a parallel -developed, common booking system (so-called RailTeam brokers ) that will replace the different national reservation systems in cross-border traffic. In December 2009 it was announced that the project was abandoned due to rising costs of development.

Form of society

The Rail team is a corporation under Dutch law, a so-called BV, based in Amsterdam and is similar to a limited liability company in Germany. Each railway company in Europe that meets the criteria of the alliance can become a member. The organizational structure is a mixture of normal corporate structure and project structure. The German and French railways have 25 percent each and the remaining five founding members - SBB, SNCB, OBB, NS high speed and Euro Star 10 per cent each to the Rail Team Alliance. Thus, the two permanent CEO of the two largest tracks in the rail team and the third manager to be appointed alternately by one of the other lanes. Under this level, there are five project groups that are occupied depending on the subject and needs of the individual partners and work together in virtual groups.
