Railway Museum of Thessaloniki
The Railway Museum in Thessaloniki documents the history of rail transport in northern Greece.
History
The site was used until 1977 as a military station and was then converted into a yard of the OSE. The building, designed by Pierro Arigoni 1891-1894 and built the main building remained unused. After the Railway Museum in Athens is no longer capable of enlargement and in Thessaloniki, an association of railway enthusiasts existed, it was decided to open a second railway museum, which although funded publicly, but privately operated. 2001, the new museum was opened.
Exhibits
The two main exhibits are the small main building, which is set in the original condition and shows a typical station in the late 19th century, and a dining car of the Orient Express. A curiosity is a chair that belonged to Eleftherios Venizelos.
