Raimon Obiols i GermÃ
Raimon Obiols i Germà (* August 5, 1940, Barcelona ) is a Spanish politician of the Social Democratic Party Catalan PSC ( a sister party, the PSOE) and Member of the European Parliament.
After studying geology Obiols i Germà 1978 was one of the founders of the PSC. 1983 to 1996 he was the First Secretary, then to 2000, chairman of the party. Since 1979 he is also a member of the national leadership of the PSOE and was there from 1994 to 2000 in charge of international relations. 1999-2000 was Obiols i Germà deputy chairman of the Party of European Socialists (PES ).
Obiols i Germà was from 1977 to 1984 member of the Spanish Parliament, then to 1999 in the regional parliament of Catalonia and, since the 1999 European elections in the European Parliament. Here he was until 2004 Vice-Chairman of the Socialist Group. He was also a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries (1999-2002) and for relations with the countries of Central America ( since 2002). In 2004, he was temporarily Deputy Chairman of the European Parliament.
