Raine Karp

Raine Karp ( born July 23, 1939 in Tallinn) is an Estonian architect.

Life

Raine Karp graduated in 1964, studied architecture at the State Art Institute of the Estonian SSR (Estonian Eesti NSV Riiklik Kunstiinstituut ) from. From 1963 to 1990 he was employed by the state architectural office Eesti project. He then founded his own architectural office.

Raine Karp had a major influence, with its monumental buildings, which initially mainly due to the Finnish modernism, later on postmodernism oriented, the Tallinn cityscape of the Soviet period. 1978, the title " Honored Architect of the Estonian SSR " he was awarded.

  • 9- storey buildings ( Tallinn Mustamäe, Vilde tee 68 and 70, 1966-1970 )
  • Sports building Tallinn University of Technology (1970-1975)
  • Party headquarters of the Estonian Communist Party, now the seat of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (in collaboration with Mart port and Olga Konchayeva, 1964-1968 )
  • Tallinn's main post office (together with Mati Raigna, 1974-1980 )
  • Multifunctional hall Linnahall (together with Riina Altmäe, 1975-1980 )
  • Conference center Sakala (Tallinn, 1982-1985; demolished)
  • National Library of Estonia (Tallinn, 1983-1993 )
