Rainer Feist

Rainer Feist ( born April 12, 1945 in Cuxhaven, † 19 May, 2007 Timmendorfer beach ) was an Admiral of the German Navy 2002-2004 Deputy Supreme Allied Commander ( Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe; DSACEUR ) at NATO headquarters in SHAPE Mons (Belgium ).

Military career

After finishing school to Feist undertook in 1966 as an officer cadet in the Bundeswehr. Two years later, in 1968, he joined the Naval Academy Mürwik successfully and then served as a guard and torpedo officer aboard speedboats and destroyers. He then attended from 1974 to 1975 to train as anti-submarine officer and later the Naval Staff Course at the Staff College in Hamburg. 1979 Feist was commander of the speedboat Cross, which belonged to the second speed boat squadron in Olpenitz.

From 1981 to 1983 Feist was employed as secretary for political-military affairs at the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Ministry of Defence in Bonn. After one year of use as deputy commander of the 7th speed boat squadron in Kiel Feist was from 1984 to 1987 Head of " planning " at NATO Headquarters BALTAP in Karup (Denmark). Then he took over from 1987 to 1990 in command of the second speedboat squadron in Olpenitz and was used from 1990 to 1991 as an instructor at the Staff College. Well, he was appointed Head of Unit for Political- Military Affairs in the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces in Bonn. 1994 Feist became Chief of Staff of the PfP Co-ordination Unit at NATO SHAPE headquarters in Mons. From 1998 to 2000 he served as deputy commander and chief of staff in the Fleet Command at Glücksburg. In April 2000 he took over the post of the commander of the Military District Command I - coast in Kiel, where he remained until September 2000. In October 2000, Feist was promoted to Vice Admiral and Deputy Inspector General of the Bundeswehr and Commissioner for reservists affairs.

Promoted to Admiral Feist took over on 18 September 2002 the post of Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe ( DSACEUR ). In February 2003 he also took over the EUFOR command as Operation Commander of Operation Concordia in Macedonia.

On 15 September 2004 he was part of a Great curfew dismissed by the Federal Minister of Defence, Peter Struck from active service. Feist died 19 May 2007 in Timmendorfer beach from cancer. He left behind a wife and two sons.
