Rainer Osselmann

Rainer Osselmann ( born July 25, 1960 in Duisburg ) is a former German water polo player.

Osselmanns parents were both Olympians, his mother Birgit Klomp as a swimmer, his father Friedhelm Osselmann as water polo. Like his father, Rainer Osselmann the ASC Duisburg active, with whom he won the 1989 Cup competition.

1979 Rainer Osselmann debuted in the German national team, in 1981 he was European champion in Split, in 1982 occupied the German team to third place at the World Championship in Guayaquil. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, the German water polo players were among the favorites. By winning the bronze medal behind the Yugoslavs and the American hosts, they succeeded in the only Olympic medal win after 1945.

1985 occupied the German team to third place at the European Championship. After finishing sixth at the 1986 World Cup, the team reached the fourth place in the European Championship 1987. Also the fourth place went to the German team at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. In 1989, the German water polo player in Bonn European champion, said Rainer Osselmann in extra time scored the winning goal against Yugoslavia by distance shot against the Yugoslav world-class goalkeeper Alexander Sostar. Overall, the forward played in 312 international matches for the German national team.

After wrangling with the Association Osselmann ended his career after the World Championships in Perth in 1991 and abandoned as a further part in the Olympics a year later in Barcelona. After that he played for several years in his parent - club ASC Duisburg in the Bundesliga, where he took over the post of sporting Leiteres in the power of sport by the end of the active career.
