Rainer Widmayer

Rainer Widmayer ( born April 2, 1967 in Sindelfingen ) is a former football player. The midfielder began a coaching career after ending his playing career.

Career

Widmayer began his football career at the SpVgg Renningen. About SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg he came to the 1st FC Pforzheim, for which he ran aground in the third-tier Oberliga Baden- Württemberg. From there he moved in 1993 to League rival TSF Ditzingen, whom he left after successful qualification for the Regional League South after just one season in the direction Oberliga VfR Pforzheim. In 1995 he returned to SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg. After two seasons for the Regionalliga side, he moved to league rivals SSV Ulm 1846., Where he was under contract until 1999 and thus came to promotion to the Second Bundesliga for use. In total he played 19 second division games. At the end of the season he announced end of his career.

As of July 2000 Widmayer was hired as an assistant coach at VfB Stuttgart and worked mainly for the second team of the club. In January 2006 he moved to Grasshopper Club Zurich to assist his former colleagues in Stuttgart Krassimir Balakov there. In its second station in Switzerland, he was from the end of October 2007 to May 2008 again Balakows assistant when he moved to FC St. Gallen. After descending into the Challenge League, the coaching duo was however exempted.

After the sacking of Armin Veh Widmayer was 23 November 2008 the new coach of VfB Stuttgart and is assistant to team boss Markus Babbel. On 6 May 2009 Widmayer signed a contract running until end of June 2011 as an assistant coach on the side of head coach Babbel, who acquires the Fußballlehrer license itself. On December 6, 2009, he was released along with Babbel from his duties at VfB.

On 17 May 2010, announced that he Babbels assistant coach at his new club Hertha BSC again. After his release on December 18, 2011 Widmayer managed the team on an interim basis until the end. In his only game he could lead with a 3-1 victory over the 1 FC Kaiserslautern Hertha in the quarter-finals of the DFB - Pokal. After Michael Skibbe has been committed as a new head coach, Widmayer left at his own request the club. Then agreed to by consensus. However Skibbe announced in his idea that he would like to work with Widmayer and he would therefore try to talk with him. Widmayer declined the offer Skibbe because he wanted to continue to work together with Markus Babbel. On February 10, 2012 Widmayer went together with Babbel for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. On 3 December 2012, he was as well as the head coach of his duties in Hoffenheim released with immediate effect.
