Raisa Smetanina

Raisa Petrovna Smetanina (Russian ' Раиса Петровна Сметанина '; * February 29, 1952 in Mochtscha, Komi ASSR ) is a former Russian cross-country skier who competed for the Soviet Union and in 1992 for the CIS.

She took 1976-1992 in five Olympic Winter Games in part and was the first ever cross-country skier, who won ten medals. It was four times Olympic champion: 1976 over 10 km and with the squadron, 1980 5 km. Your fourth Olympic gold medal she won in 1992 at the age of 40 years. Smetanina is the oldest Olympic gold medalist in the Winter Games. In addition, it was five times second and once third.

Also very successful she was at World Championships: 1974, 1978 and 1991, she became world champion in the relay, in 1982 over 20 km. There are also four silver and bronze medals. The overall ranking of the Cross Country World Cup she decided in the season 1980/1981 for themselves. 1979 Smetanina was awarded the Holmenkollen medal in 1984 with the Order of Friendship of Peoples.
