Raised Fist is a Swedish hardcore punk, founded in 1993 / post- hardcore band. The name is derived from the Rage Against the Machine - Know Your Enemy song, which states: Born with insight and a raised fist to.

Band History

In Luleå, the musicians Alexander Hagman, Petri Rönnberg, Tommy, Andreas Johansson and Peter Karlsson came together in 1993 and founded the band " Raised Fist ". Even before the band had released a CD, they signed a record deal with Burning Heart Records. It followed the 1994 debut EP " You're Not Like Me ".

In the following two years, the two guitarists Peter Rönnberg and Tommy left the band and were replaced by Marc Eronen ( The Duskfall ). It follows on June 3, 1996, the second EP Stronger Than Ever. Shortly afterwards, drummer Peter Karlsson left the band, so the band was forced to take a two year break.

In 1998, " Raised Fist " the new drummer Oskar Karlsson in the band. This was followed by the debut album Fuel on 9 December of the same year. Two years later, their second album Ignoring The Guidelines, which proved to be a flop. After this setback producer Daniel Bergstrand beach took the band under his proteges. Meanwhile, the album Watch Your Step, which contained the songs from the two EPs 're Not Like Me and Stronger Than Ever appeared. A year later, Dedication came on the market, produced by Daniel Bergstrand beach with support from former Misery Loves Co. band member Örjan Örnkloo. To which Daniel plays the second guitar on the album. The album itself had less hardcore elements, but distinct industrial characteristics were to hear.

After " Raised Fist " refused an invitation to Ozzfest, it was quiet around the band. Marco Eronen and Oskar Karlsson changed in the meantime the band and played with in addition to "The Duskfall " where Oskar then completely stopped at " Raised Fist ". After Matte Modin was standing in for Oscar, appeared, after a 4-year dormancy, finally on 10 April 2006 Sound Of The Republic, which had no industrial influences more. Instead, the band sat back on the typical hardcore, and started to include more rock elements. After the great success with the album and a solid line-up, toured " Raised Fist " across Europe. Among other things, with Bridge To Solace by Germany.

In 2009 they released their sixth album Veil Of Ignorance, like the predecessors, under Burning Heart Records. The album contains as its predecessors, a lot of brutal hardcore songs, but sings Alexander " All " Hagman in some songs with clean vocals, which is rather unusual for the band.

Style

You're Just in the years of the EP Not Like Me is the style of the band still strong of classic hardcore punk forms and beyond especially the so-called Youth Crew style of Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today but also bands like Sick of It All oriented: Short songs; Fast, driving rhythms, punctuated by short mid-tempo interludes and / or intros / outros; Hardcore / Punk - typical guitar riffs, which are supplemented by one or the other more melodic chord progression and a pissed off, some screaming, little melodic voice einbindende shaped the image of the group.

In subsequent years, the band's sound - especially from the year 2000 - more and more aggressive, brutal and metallic: Occurrence is more frequent stomping mid-tempo rhythms of the drum set in the foreground. The guitar riffs seem rough and are based more on rock and metal. Also, longer songs and more complex song structures with more complicated Ryhthmus - change are increasingly formative. In addition, the singer's voice change towards aggressive shouting and roaring - sometimes even metal typical growl. In between there are still typical - but by the change in style significantly gloomy and aggressive sounding - faster parts. Addition, however, increasingly more atmospheric and experimental elements can be installed.

At Green Light the style of the band in the context of published in 2006 album " Sound of the Republic " was described as follows:

"That," [ ... ] backbone continues to be woody hard, sauschneller hardcore with metal edge and the stoic acting, ostensibly monotonous vocals, but which turn out in the long-term test as highly aggressive and hard hittin ' and act as a constantly low drumming on the head hailstorm. " "
