Raja'a Alem

Raja'a ' Alem ( * 1970 in Mecca, Hejaz, Saudi Arabia) is a Saudi writer.

Life

' Alem studied at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia English literature. She is currently working (2011) as a tutor at the Centre for the training of kindergarten teachers in Jeddah. She wrote first in traditional Arabic style and materials used from their native region Hijaz and the history, myths and legends from pre-Islamic times. Since the beginning of this millennium changed her style, the subjects were more time-based.

' Alem's first publications were made in the Saudi daily newspaper Riyadh. Previously you wrote essays for the theater, short stories and six novels. For the novel Arba'a sifr ( four times zero) from the year 1991, she received the 1995 Ibn - Tufayl Prize of Spanish - Arab Institute. It was in 1995 Tariq al - Harir, 2001, she published Khatim, followed in 2005 by Sitr ( secret ).

' Alem lives in Jeddah and Paris. In 2011 she made ​​with her ​​sister, the painter Shadia ' Alem, at the 54th Biennale di Venezia from the light sculpture The Black Arch.
