Rajdhani Express

Rajdhani Express ( literally German: Capital Express ) is a kind of high-quality night trains of the Indian Railways. The trains connecting the capital New Delhi with other important places, mostly capitals of states.

History

The first Rajdhani Express perverted on March 1, 1969 between Howrah ( Kolkata ) and New Delhi. The train was led by a diesel locomotive class WDM -4, reaching up to 120 km / h 1972 Rajdhani Express was introduced in the Bombay.

Rajdhani Express trains have only air-conditioned sleeper with the following three classes of cars:

  • AC First Class (code AC1): First Class with lockable double and four- bed compartments
  • AC Two Tier (code AC2): Second class compartments that are separated by curtains, two bunk beds
  • AC Three Tier (code AC3): Second class compartments that are separated by curtains, three beds one above the other

From 2013, the trains will be equipped with Wi-Fi.

The trains carry up to twenty cars and each one generator car at the front and at the rear of the train for their energy supply, even if the train is running on electrified lines. The proportion of each car classes varies depending on the route. A shuttle daily between New Delhi and Howrah Kolkata Rajdhani leads, for example, three AC first-class carriage, six AC two-tier cars and eleven AC three-tier car.

The compositions of the trains are treated as self-contained units. The newer cars are manufactured under license from LHB. On electrified lines today come mainly locomotives of the series WAP -5, WAP -4 and WAP -7 used. The top speed for long stretches 140 km / h on some sections and 160 km / h
