Rajiformes

The Rajiformes have a flattened hull and enlarged pectoral fins that range, except for the violin (Rhinobatidae ), from the side of the head to the caudal peduncle. An anal fin is not always absent, caudal and dorsal fins are still present in some families, in others. Eyes and gill openings are located on the top.

Families

  • Violin (Rhinobatidae )
  • Skates and rays ( Rajidae )
  • Soft nose skate ( Arhynchobatidae )
  • Leg skate ( Anacanthobatidae ) (not accepted by all authors as valid family. )
