Rajiv Shah

Rajiv Shah ( born March 9, 1973 in Ann Arbor, Michigan) is an American physician and civil servant. He is head of the U.S. Agency for International Development USAID since 2010.

Life

Shah was born as the son of Indian Hindu immigrants in the U.S. state of Michigan. He grew up in Detroit. Shah studied medicine and economics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and also in London at the London School of Economics. For several years he then worked for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, among other things, he was head of a vaccination program and the Department of Agricultural Research. In 2009 he was first then appointed Under Secretary in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and in January 2010 as the official successor of Henrietta H. Fore head of the U.S. federal aid organization USAID, which has an annual budget of $ 22 billion and approximately 3,900 employees.
