Rakuten K. K. (Japanese楽 天 株式会社~ Kabushiki - gaisha; engl ~, Inc.. ) is a noted in JASDAQ Online Store and is among the ten largest Internet companies in the world. This was achieved mainly through acquisitions, such as from Buy.com (USA), PriceMinister (France), Ikeda (Brazil) and Play.com (Jersey). The corporate headquarters is located in Tokyo's Higashi- Shinagawa. Rakuten also owns the Japanese baseball team Tohoku Rakuten Golden professional Eagles.

Rakuten has acquired the VoIP software Viber on 14 February 2014.

The company is the world's largest online retailer of ivory and whale meat.

German-speaking

In Germany and Austria Rakuten is active since mid-2011 through the acquisition of the company Rakuten in Bamberg. In January 2012, the renamed Rakuten took place. In December 2012, Rakuten is represented with a separate Austrian branch in Vienna. In Switzerland Rakuten is not active (status: August 29, 2013).
