Rälby ( German Rälbi, estonia Swedish Rälbe ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Vormsi ( Vormsi vald ) in Lääne. The town lies in the northeast of the fourth largest Estonian island of Vormsi ( German Worms, Swedish Ormsö ).

Inhabitants and History

Rälby today has 19 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). The village was inhabited until the Second World War, like all the villages Vormsis majority of Estonian Swedes.

The place was first mentioned in documents in 1526 under the name Reuelbue. In 1613 he is listed as Rewalby 1798 as Röhlby.

Attractions

In Rälby is since 1905 a house of prayer of the Baptist church. The movement goes back to the Swedish missionary Lars Johan Österblom, who worked on the island Vormsi from 1873.

To the west of the village center is an historic windmill, which is open to visitors.
