Rallisport Challenge

Rallisport Challenge is a racing game series, which was distributed by Microsoft Game Studios. The game developer DICE was responsible for the development / design of the two parts Rallisport Challenge. Rallisport Challenge Colin McRae Rally is one of the next series of Codemasters and the World Rally Championship ( WRC short ) of the Evolution Studios the most popular Rally video games on the console.

History

Rallisport Challenge

Rallisport Challenge was released on 9 March 2002 for the Xbox and PC.

First, the player must create a profile and select the level (Easy or Normal). Then you can choose between the four selectable modes ( time trial, single race, career and multiplayer ). The " Career Mode " is divided into four sub- classes ( professional, expert, classical and Unlimited), which must be earned in sequence. In the four subclasses have to reach a certain amount of points to unlock new competitions.

The developer DICE put a special emphasis on the variety of racing types. The player must be the first to reach the finish line in the quickest possible time or drive to the ice race on dangerous smooth circular routes in "typical" rally type. In addition, there are three other racing types that occur in the career mode: Ascent, crossover and terrain rally. In the crossover is replaced after a driven round the track side of the opponent and trying to be the first to reach the finish line. In career mode you can unlock new cars, paint jobs and routes through successful completion of the competition.

The vehicles have their own driving physics and a private damage model that realistically changed by collisions with other vehicles / objects. Before you start a race, you can change some settings in the tuning option (eg, determine the type of tire ).

Players can choose from a total of 48 different tracks and 29 licensed cars (among Subaru Impreza WRX ) to choose from. The routes were modeled on their real life and offer a varied environment. Rallisport Challenge is an arcade -heavy racing game, eliminating the need for a realistic driving behavior. Thus, the game is beginner- friendly and do not get frustrated the player through a complicated control. On the right side of the game screen there is a tachometer / speedometer that displays the current speed and gear. In the upper right edge of the racing timer displays the current total time of the race. The developers have also integrated a " progress bar " in the game that indicates the current position of the player and the opponent on the track.

The game features a custom soundtrack feature which allows the player to hear her own songs / albums in Rallisport Challenge. The environment graphics and effects have been praised by many critics games.

Rallisport Challenge 2

Rallisport Challenge 2 was released on 21 May 2004 exclusively for the Xbox.

The gameplay from its predecessor, Rallisport Challenge in 2002, was retained and supplemented with a few small changes. The players are now 41 vehicles and 93 different routes to choose from. In addition to the standard vehicles such as the Volkswagen Beetle and many new vehicles (including the Ford GT 70) are available. Each of these cars has to start only one painting. The next three finishes can be unlocked by the number of kilometers driven. The career mode has been expanded and is now divided into the following sub- classes: Amateur, Professional, Champion and Super Rally. Depending on the class, increases the level of driving skills that is required of the player. In the last class, Super Rally, the player has to make do without the Continue function.

The developers DICE are using a newly developed graphics engine for the game. The graphics engine provides the improved weather and lighting effects for a dense and credible atmosphere. The shadows of the respective vehicles and objects appear realistic and the paved roads are provided with bump mapping.

The multiplayer mode of Rallisport Challenge 2 was extended sense. The player can now compete against 16 other players via Xbox Live. This mode, however, also has a disadvantage: the race with the other players always find only one after the other instead. The player can download via the Xbox Live menu item four new vehicles (Volvo Amazon, Saab 96, BMW X5, VW Touareg ), new paint for all cars and two new game modes ( Careers Mountain Challenge, Arena Challenge ). In March 2004, the Publisher, Microsoft announced that this was the last XSN title.

Modes

  • Time Trial: In this mode, the player can improve his own best times or compete against other players via Xbox Live.
  • Single Race: Here you have to play against up to three computer- controlled opponents.
  • Career: This is the main component of the Rallisport Challenge number. The player must work through a series of races and events to unlock new events and thus win the respective event class. Here you can by successful wins, unlock a certain number of new vehicles / routes. Once the player has completed all event classes successfully, you get all the liveries for each vehicle.
  • Multiplayer: In multiplayer mode you can play against other players / friends via split screen, system link or Xbox Live.
