Ralph Plumb

Ralph Plumb ( born March 29, 1816 in Busti, Chautauqua County, New York, † April 8, 1903 in Streator, Illinois ) was an American politician.

After Plumb spent several years doing business in his home state, he moved to Ohio. There he was in 1855 a member of the House of Representatives from Ohio. Plumb studied law and was admitted to the legal profession in 1857. He practiced in Oberlin in Lorain County. During the American Civil War he served in the Union Army. In 1866 he moved to Illinois and settled there in Streator. 1882-1885 he was the mayor of the city.

Plumb was elected as a Republican to Congress and represented there on 4 March 1885 to 3 March 1889 the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives. After his career as a congressman, he returned to Streator and was in the banking industry operates. He died in 1903 in Streator and was buried in the Riverview Cemetery.
