Ralph Rumney

Ralph Rumney, ( born June 5, 1934 in Newcastle, England, † March 6, 2002 in Manosque, France ) was an English artist.

Rumney was the founder of the London Psychogeographical Society ( also Psychogéographique Comité de Londres or London Psycho Geographical Society ), which dealt with psycho- geography.

At 17 he left home and went to Paris to avoid military service. There he had contact with the avant-garde art scene of the time.

In 1957 he was one of the founding members of the group Situationist International and made ​​the connection the group to London dar. 1958 he was again excluded. He remained, however, the members continue to personally connected.

Rumney was up to their suicide in 1967 Pegeen Vail, daughter of Peggy Guggenheim, married. Later he lived in retirement in Manosque / southern France. At his funeral, former members of the SI were found together again. He is buried in the cemetery of Montparnasse.
