Ram Ramirez

Roger " Ram " Ramirez (* as Roger Amares on September 15, 1913 in San Juan (Puerto Rico); † January 13, 1994 ) was an American jazz pianist and composer of Swing. Together with Jimmy Davis, he composed the jazz standard Lover Man.

Life and work

In 1920 he immigrated to the United States. Earlier in his career played Ramirez in 1933 at the Louisiana Stompers, the Spirits of Rhythm, and Monette Moore. In 1934, he worked at Rex Stewart, 1936 at Willie Bryant and went 1937/38, with Bobby Martin on tour in Europe. He then worked in the orchestra of Ella Fitzgerald, with Ike Quebec, where he was involved in the tracks She's Funny That Way, Tiny's Exercises, Blue Harlem, Mad About You, Facin ' The Face (1944). Later he played with John Kirby and various smaller formations in New York and accompanied Helen Humes.
