Ramatuelle

Ramatuelle is a commune with 2127 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Ramatuelle is a neighboring town of Saint- Tropez on the French Riviera and is located at the eastern foot of the Massif des Maures. The town is near the bay of Pampelonne in the center of the peninsula of Saint- Tropez in a typical Provencal coast landscape, lend their special character pine forested hills and fertile plains. For the commune include beaches Escalet, Tahiti and the 4.5 km long beach of Pampelonne, the one with an area of ​​27 hectares one of the largest sandy beaches of Provence. The medieval village

The site of the erected at the side of a hill medieval village is characterized by narrow, curved and spanned by vaults and arches streets that spiral wind their way up the hill. Of the former fortifications in the east called the Sarazenentor gate has been preserved from the 16th century.

  • French actor and director Jean -Claude Brialy (1933-2007) called the Festival de Théâtre et de Ramatuelle vaudeville to life. He owned an estate in the community.

Economy

The main sources of income of the community are viticulture and tourism, which are complemented by a wide range of crafts, trade and commerce.

The wine-growing area of Ramatuelle can be traced to the time of Greek colonization around 600 BC to trace. On a total of 750 hectares of vines are grown wines of AOC Côtes de Provence, and a quarter Vin de Pays du Var of a wine cooperative and five wineries to three quarters today.
