Ramciel

( Also written Ramshiel ) Ramciel is a place in the State of Lakes in Southern Sudan, which was scheduled as a future capital of the country. At the moment, however, Juba is the capital of South Sudan.

The name means " place where to meet the rhinos ." The local population consists of Chiech - Dinka who breed cattle, operate in the rainy season crop and pull during the dry season in wetlands on the White Nile. The place is considered to be the geographical center of South Sudan and is close to the limit of Lakes to the states of Jonglei, Central Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria.

John Garang, the leader of the rebel SPLM had decided even before the signing of the 2005 peace agreement that Ramciel instead of Juba as the new capital of South Sudan should be. The then still belonged as an autonomous region of Sudan - - In February 2011, the government of South Sudan decided to determine a new capital. The reason given was that the infrastructure of Juba was overloaded and he said, the further expansion of the city limits. Ramciel was one of the two places that were considered for the new capital into account. On 2 September 2011, the government decided to Ramciel. Planning and construction of capital is expected to last three to five years.

About the suitability of Ramciel as the capital there is conflicting information. A 2006 feasibility study, according to the area of flooding and waterlogging risk, and therefore not suitable for the construction of a major city. According to other data, the reason, however, of sufficiently solid rock and surrounded by five hills that protect the city from the floods of the Nile.
