Ramón María del Valle- Inclan ( born October 28, 1866 in Vilanova de Arousa, Galicia, † January 5, 1936 in Santiago de Compostela ) was Spanish dramatist, novelist and member of the Generación del 98

Importance

Valle- Inclan is certainly regarded as one of the most important and as the most radical among the playwrights who worked on the subversion of the traditionalism of the Spanish Theaterestablishments in the early 20th century. His dramatic work is also by the impact it had on subsequent generations, of particular importance.

Valle- Inclán attack works (eg miracles words and luster of Bohème ), what he saw as hypocrisy, moralizing and sentimentality of the bourgeois playwright and represent the views of the ruling class in a satirical manner dar. He takes particular terms such as male honor, militarism, patriotism, and the attitude towards the Crown and the Catholic Church on the grain. He also portrayed political figures of the Spanish past irreverent way and used an obscene language and vulgar imagery to attack theatrical euphemisms.

Valle- Inclán pieces were not only politically subversive, but often also required intensive rehearsals and stage equipment, which went far beyond the capabilities of commercial theater groups also. There were complex supernatural special effects and rapid, drastic change of set.

Valle- Inclan also wrote important novels, including Tirano Banderas (eg Yo el supremo, dt I, the Almighty by Augusto Roa Bastos ) massively influenced the South American dictator novel.

Some critics see in him a Spanish equivalent of James Joyce.
