Ramses Station

The Ramses Station (Arabic محطة رمسيس Mahattat Ramsis, DMG Mahattat Ramsis, English: Ramses Railway Station) is the main railway station of Cairo, Egypt.

The station is located at Ramses Square ( Mīdān Ramsis ), from which the name of the station is derived, which in turn is named after the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II whose statue was on the Ramses Square. The statue was translocated from the 1955 Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser in front of the main train station. On August 25, 2006, she was transferred again to another place, near the pyramids of Giza. Originally, the station was called Misr Station ( Mahattat Miṣr ). It was created in 1856 for the railroad Cairo - Alexandria. The current station building was built in 1892 and rebuilt in 1955.

In an extension of the station is the Egyptian Railway Museum.
