Randa Haines

Randa Haines ( born February 20, 1945 in Los Angeles, California) is an award-winning American film director and film producer who some well-known movies staged in the 1980s and 1990s, including God's Forgotten Children, The Doctor - An ordinary patient or Walter & Frank - A pair of slanted.

Life and career

Randa Haines was born in 1945 in Los Angeles, California, but grew up in New York City. Because their love was the theater, she attended the School of Visual Arts and studied acting with Lee Strasberg. She worked as a script girl before she was accepted into the American Film Institute 's Directing Workshop for Women 1975.

In the late 1970s, she directed the drama Under This Sky their first TV movie. At the beginning of the 1980s, they then directed several popular U.S. television series directed, including Hill Street Blues, detective with witchcraft, CBS Afternoon Playhouse or Knots Landing. In 1984, she received critical acclaim and an Emmy nomination for Best Director for her drama Something about Amelia with Ted Danson and Glenn Close in the lead roles.

In 1986, she directed the film Children of a Lesser God about a deaf, but confident woman is a sensitive and timeless portrait of society and thus successfully revealed the hidden world of deaf culture. The film, starring William Hurt and Marlee Matlin in the lead roles has received numerous international awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actress for Marlee Matlin at the Academy Awards in 1987 as well as four other nominations Best in the Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress. In addition, Randa Haines won the Silver Bear at the International Film Festival in Berlin in 1987 for Outstanding Artistic Contribution.

In 1991, she directed the drama The Doctor - An ordinary patient again with William Hurt in the lead role as director. In 1993, she realized with Walter & Frank - A pair of slanted a project of the then only 21 -year-old author Steve Conrad. The film set with actors Robert Duvall, Richard Harris, Shirley MacLaine and Sandra Bullock, a well-known cast. With the dance film Dance with Me starring Vanessa Williams, Chayanne and Kris Kristofferson Randa Haines directed in 1998 its most personal film, which she also produced himself.
