Randa mountain is a municipality in the Norwegian Rogaland. It is located in the far north of the landscape Jæren. The municipality borders the municipalities of Stavanger, Sola, Rennesøy and Kvitsøy. The majority of residents living in the three villages: Sentrum (310 households), Viste Hageby (315 households) and Grødem (135 households).

History

Some of the first inhabitants of Norway have lived here. It is believed that the first people to 12,000 BC came here. It is believed that Svarthola (also known as Vistehola ) was the accommodation for a group of 25 people ( 6000 BC). These people were mainly hunters and gatherers, from 4000 BC but they also began with agriculture. From 2000 BC they were mainly occupied with agriculture.

At about 1630, the old stave church was replaced by a simple wooden church. The altarpiece was painted by Gottfried Hendtzschel created figural jewelry by carver Laurids Snekker. When in the middle of the 19th century, the church was again too small, was erected in 1845 by type plans of architect Hans Ditlev Franciscus Castle von Linstow today located in the municipality part Randa mountain Sentrum wooden church. The equipment was taken over in part.

On July 1, 1922 Randa mountain was described at the time as an independent municipality, as Herred, separated from the Hetland municipality. First Mayor ( Ordfører ) was Andrew Harestad. In the name of the parts of the municipality, the old farm names still exist today: Tunge, Sands, Randa mountain, Todnem, Harestad, Grødem, Rygg, Goa, Håland, Leikvoll, Viste, Vistnes, Raustein, Vistnes, Vistvik, Ytre Bø, Indre Bø, Tunge.

Shortly after the beginning of World War II, on 9 April 1940, Randa mountain was, like the entire west coast of Norway, occupied in the course of the operation company Weserübung. During the occupation Randa mountain was expanded because of its strategic location at the Byfjord to the fortress. The Randa Berger Isak Rygh captured the German positions and gave the drawings and maps to the Norwegian resistance movement further, for which he was sentenced in 1942 to imprisonment in a German concentration camp.

On 11 May 1945, the German occupying forces were disarmed and taken prisoner by the British allies.

Economy

Randa mountain is even now an agricultural commune. The first potatoes each year, be paid to the royal family.
