Randal L. Schwartz

Randal L. Schwartz ( born November 22, 1961) is an American author, trainer and consultant programmer. In 1985, he founded the company " Stonehenge Consulting Services, Inc".

Administrator

Schwartz gained international prominence as the state of Oregon accused him at the behest of Intel for serious computer crime. He worked as a system administrator and consultant for Intel and wanted to point out that most Intel employees used weak passwords, making the computer security can be easily compromised his own words. In July 1995, Schwartz was charged with three offenses and sentenced in September of the same year to a suspended prison sentence and a fine of $ 68,000. The court costs, which were also to be borne by Schwartz, amounted to $ 170,000.

As co -author of the first major Perl book ( Camel Book) Schwartz was known very quickly. Meanwhile, he has written many important titles in this field or participated in them (see bibliography). Schwartz writes regular columns on Perl in various computer magazines such as WebTechniques Magazine, SysAdmin Magazine, Linux Magazine and the Perl Journal. In addition, he is one of the founding members of the Perl Mongers.

Others

Schwartz is known for its special kind of humor. From him the idea for the Just another Perl hacker derived signatures. Even the Schwartz transformation is named after him. This particular programming technique allows to speed up considerably in Perl a sorting algorithm by data of the intermediate steps are kept in an internal memory and therefore need not be calculated more than once.

He was an early pioneer since 2005 of Git, which all incoming Perlcode examined from April 2006, he hosted the popular " Floss weekly" podcast, in which he interviewed managers or experts to free software projects.
