Randall S. Harmon

Randall S. Harmon ( born July 19, 1903 in North Vernon, Jennings County, Indiana; † August 18, 1982 in Muncie, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1959 and 1961 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Ralph Harmon attended the North Vernon High School and then completed courses for law and toolmaking. Between 1933 and 1959 he worked as a toolmaker for the company Delco Battery Operations in Muncie. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. Between 1944 and 1956 he ran seven times unsuccessfully for Congress.

Since 1954 he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1958 he was appointed as their candidate in the tenth electoral district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Ralph Harvey on January 3, 1959. Since he lost in 1960 against Harvey, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1961. After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Harmon target to 1980 several times in vain at his party's nomination for the congressional elections. In 1979, he ran unsuccessfully as for the office of mayor of Muncie. He died on 18 August 1982 in this city, and was buried in North Vernon.
