Randolph County (Indiana)

Randolph County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Winchester.

Geography

The County is located in the east of Indiana, bordering Ohio and has an area of 1174 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It borders in Indiana clockwise to the following counties: Jay County, Wayne County, Henry County and Delaware County.

History

Randolph County was formed on January 10, 1818 from parts of Wayne County. It was named after Randolph County, North Carolina, from which came most of the early settlers.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Randolph County 27 401 people in 10,937 households and 7,798 families. The population density was 23 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.06 percent White, 0.26 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.15 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.59 percent from other races groups; 0.73 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.22 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 10,937 households out of which 31.5 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 58.9 percent were married couples living together, 8.7 percent were single mothers and 28.7 percent were non-families. 25.0 percent of all households and 11.9 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.95 persons.

25.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.9 percent between 18 to 24, 27.3 percent between 25 and 44 years. 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 92.8 males.

The median income for a household was $ 34,544, and the median income for a family $ 40,855. Males have a median income of $ 30,951, women $ 20,634. The per capita income was $ 16,954. 8.3 percent of families and 11.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
