Randolph County (North Carolina)
Randolph County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Asheboro, named after Governor Samuel Ashe.
The County is located just west of the geographic center of North Carolina and has an area of 2046 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Guilford County, Alamance County, Chatham County, Moore County, Montgomery County and Davidson County.
Randolph County is divided into 22 townships: Asheboro, Archdale, Back Creek, Brower, Cedar Grove, Coleridge, Columbia, Concord, Farmer, Franklinville, Grant, Level Cross, Liberty, New Hope, New Market, Pleasant Grove, Providence, Randleman, Richland, Tabernacle, Trinity and Union.
According to the census in 2000, lived in Randolph County 130 454 people in 50,659 households and 37,335 families. The population density was 64 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 89.20 percent White, 5.63 percent African American, 0.45 percent Native American, 0.64 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 3.01 percent from other races groups; 1.06 per cent were descended from two or more races. 6.63 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 50,659 households out of which 33.7 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.1 percent were married couples living together, 10.2 percent were single mothers and 26.3 percent were non-families. 22.5 percent of all households and 8.6 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.97.
25.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.0 percent 18 to 24 years 31.3 percent between 25 and 44, 23.5 percent between 45 and 64, and 12.1 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 36 years. In all females there were 97.8 males. In all women aged 18 and over, 95.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 38,348, and the median income for a family was $ 44,369. Males had a median income of $ 30,575 versus $ 22,503 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,236. 9.1 percent of the population and 6.8 percent of families are below the poverty line. 11.6 percent of them are children and adolescents under age 18 and 11.5 percent are 65 years or older.
