Randy Brecker

Edward Randal " Randy " Brecker ( born November 27, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American jazz musician (trumpet, flugelhorn). He is an artist in the genres of jazz, rock and R & B.

Life and work

After finishing school, Brecker studied at Indiana University in Bloomington classical trumpet. In 1966 he went to New York in 1968 and worked among others in the big band by Clark Terry. He played in 1970 with Horace Silver, Stevie Wonder, Janis Joplin and Art Blakey.

Randy Brecker in 1967 was a founding member of the rock-jazz band Blood, Sweat & Tears and 1973 by Larry Coryell's pioneering fusion band The Eleventh House.

Together with his late younger brother Michael in January 2007, Jerry Dodgion, Larry Coryell, Hal Galper, Eddie Gomez, Mickey Roker, inter alia, the beginning of 1969 he made his first album score for the Blue Note label.

With Michael Brecker, he founded 1975, the Brecker Brothers, whose first album was nominated for four Grammys. In addition to countless studio projects, he was also 1971/2 member of the jazz-rock group Dreams ( with John Abercrombie, Billy Cobham and others).

After the Brecker Brothers broke up in 1982, he toured as a member of Jaco Pastorius ' Word of Mouth Big Band. Shortly after, Randy Brecker met his first wife, the Brazilian jazz pianist Eliane Elias, know. With it, he played in the coming years a lot together and recorded an album with the name of their daughter, Amanda with her on.

In 1989 he joined with Eric Clapton on one weeks in the sold-out Royal Albert Hall. 1992 formed the Brecker Brothers band their new. Two years later, they took "out of the loop " on, for which she received two Grammys. Then they played the first contemporary jazz band in the People's Republic of China to sell out crowds in Beijing and Shanghai. With his brother, he published in 1999 the CD " Priceless Jazz", but it was less successful.

In the summer of 2001, Randy took along with his brother Michael, a European tour with an acoustic version of the Brecker Brothers, mainly with titles of CD Hangin ' in the City. Together with his brother and Leslie Mandoki, he released two albums in 2002 and 2003.

His CD 34th N Lex, published in April 2003, includes eleven new Randy Brecker compositions and arrangements; the one with the "dream horn section " David Sanborn, Michael Brecker, Fred Wesley and Ronnie Cuber, along with Brecker's regular band and his wife, the Italian tenor saxophonist Ada Rovatti rehearsed, was awarded as Best Contemporary Jazz Album Grammy.

He played with Billy Cobham, Bruce Springsteen, Charles Mingus and Big in the Mingus band ( Gunslinging Birds 1994) and with Horace Silver, Frank Zappa, Parliament, Jaco Pastorius. In recent years, he went several times with Mike Stern on tour.

2012 was developed in cooperation with Polish musicians and composers Włodek Pawlik and Philharmonic of Kalisz town, published in the following year album Night in Calisia; this was in 2014 awarded a Grammy Award.
